Ce livre rassemble un choix d’articles parus dans le bulletin électronique
mensuel du Mouvement mondial pour les forêts (World Rainforest Movement
– WRM), où sont abordés les impacts des grands barrages hydroélectriques
sur les forêts et les peuples qui les habitent, et les luttes, autant locales que
mondiales, qui sont menées pour les combattre.

Le niveau d’analyse et de détail des articles varie beaucoup, du fait du caractère
du bulletin lui-même, qui se veut un outil destiné autant aux personnes et
organisations locales qu’à ceux qui agissent au plan international. Nous les
avons inclus presque tous, car nous pensons qu’ils peuvent contribuer à la
création de mouvements de résistance et de solidarité autour d’un problème
qui est d’une importance vitale pour les communautés qui habitent les regions
ou existent déjà des grands barrages ou sont en train de se construire.

La plupart des articles sont le fruit de la collaboration entre l’équipe chargée
de l’édition du bulletin du WRM et les personnes et les organisations qui
travaillent de par le monde dans la défense des forêts contre les grands
barrages. Les nombreuses sources d’information utilisées dans la rédaction
des articles sont citées à la fin du livre, où elles sont classées par article. Les
articles eux-mêmes sont organisés en sections, à l’intérieur desquelles ils
figurent dans l’ordre chronologique de parution.

La responsabilité de cette publication est partagée par l’équipe du WRM
chargée de l’édition et par les nombreuses personnes et institutions qui y ont
contribué par des articles ou par l’information nécessaire à leur rédaction.
Les erreurs éventuelles sont la responsabilité exclusive du WRM.

Cependant, le plus important est que les véritables protagonistes de cet ouvrage sont les nombreuses communautés des régions tropicales et subtropicales, qui subissent les conséquences de la dégradation et de l’anéantissement des forêts et ses moyens de vie, en opposant une véritable résistance contre la destruction de son écosystème provoqué par des grands barrages. Les articles tentent de refléter leurs combats, et de les appuyer. A toutes et à tous, notre hommage le plus sincère.
