Oil and Gas

“Poor, but honest petroleum workers (or, useful dulls)”

by Eduardo Rojas H. (Economist)
Ex – worker of C.E.P.E. (Ecuadorian Oil Owned-State Corporation) (now Petroecuador)

The most serious, and without postponement analysis about the environmental destruction, that oil exploitation causes in the Ecuadorian Amazon Region (EAR), in spite of the dollars it produces.

INTRODUCTION

This work examines the case of the indigenous groups existing in the EAR: its composition and distribution; its culture and ‘cosmovision’; its participation at the socio-economic present of the country, and, necessarily, its presence in universal life.

It identifies, besides, as a fundamental basis of a work, the origins of environmental problems in the world: the capitalism in force, and its concepts of economic development and sustainable development; the imposing birth of this last economic philosophy; the capitalist phase that nowadays involved us; the cruel production in relation with the environment; the painful result of environment degradation and contamination, both born from the demanded and demanding production; the “Greenhouse effect”, sequel of the elaboration of elements used by our civilization; the consequences of this menace, already expanded allover the planet; the measures adopted by the world community to counteract those natural disasters resulted from such a menace; and, to close the analysis, presents remarks about how sustainable treatment of natural resources should be carried out in the world.

On the other hand, it studies the economic importance that has for the country the oil exploitation in the EAR, and the impact of it in the environment, considering that the Amazon Basin has a local and worldwide relevance for its humid tropical forest, which is home for a meaningful “mega-biodiversity” composed by endemic species, fragile ecosystems and human habitats that could be lost and have to be preserved, given that they are the best richness of the world. It also emphasizes on the irreversible damages that inconsiderate action of the selfsame human being causes to the world, when exploiting crude oil in an intensive and mercantilist way. It makes comments on the offer-demand relation, which affects the present-day state of appearance of industrial plants. To sum up, it tries to stimulate the human spirit to that pure and free life that has started to be destroyed at the mercy of oil exploitation.

Through a humanistic economic look, it explains the globalization, derived from the mercantilism, which imposes the obligation of an added value to primary products, suggesting to revert it into a conservation mechanism for natural resources.

As it wants to alert the entire globe, and to take conducive measures for an acceptable life for every human being, it also analyses other mechanisms of environmental remediation that can be used in the planet and, moreover, that are of urgent application in the EAR, as well as its incidence in the sustainable development of such basin.
