The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is pivotal for creating demand and the conditions for widespread privatization in virtually every sector in the Asia Pacific region, from transportation, energy and urban development to agriculture, water and finance. Based on an infrastructure-led ‘growth’, the corporate sector is aggressively pushed in ADB supported projects through public-private partnerships (PPPs), loans, co-financing and another series of financial instruments.

It was launched at the 19th Conference of the Parties of the Climate Convention in Warsaw.

India Climate Justice, a collective of social movements, trade unions, other organizations and individuals, has issued on last June 25 a statement stressing that the devastating loss of life, livelihoods, and homes in Uttarakhand and beyond, caused by extreme unseasonal rains in North India, is a tragedy that indicates a global warming induced climate change phenomenon.

In March 2013, the presidents of the so-called BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – met in Durban, South Africa. Surrounded by security barriers so that no one who would dare to protest could get near them, the presidents of these nations discussed a number of issues, including cooperation proposals. One of the proposals most widely highlighted in coverage of the event was the creation of a BRICS development bank, with USD 50 billion in seed capital contributed in five equal parts by the bloc’s member countries.

On 3 February 2013, at around 4 am, twelve police platoons entered Govindpur and Nuagaon villages in Jagatsinghpur district of Orissa (present Odisha) and started beating up sleeping women & children, injuring many of them seriously, and arresting people at random. They are demolishing the betel vines in the area - the traditional and one of the most viable local livelihoods.

Following a collaborative study conducted in the four Protected Areas: Nagarhole, Bandipur, Mudumalai and Wayanad, several social groups came together in Gudalur on December 21- 22, 2012. After discussing the state of the Protected Areas of the Nigiris Biosphere Reserve, repeated violation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006 and the Wildlife Protection Act - Amendment of 2006, the continued dispossession of the communities from their traditional habitat and community resources, The Gudalur Declaration was adopted declaring all the Tiger Reserves in the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserves as illegal.
