Biopiracy

Biopiracy is a process by which companies appropriate traditional knowledge for profit. For years, governments have been facilitating this process—which grants corporations control over forest-dependent communities' traditional knowledge about the use of seeds, plants and animals. Because it is the communities that built their local food, health, economic, religious and spiritual systems of knowledge, it is essential that they maintain control over them.
