Brazil: Bee Mortality Caused by the Pulp Industry in Mato Grosso do Sul

In the so-called "Cellulose Valley" in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, eucalyptus monocultures cause the death of bees due to the use of pesticides, in addition to other serious impacts, such as the appropriation of fertile land and the drying up of springs and streams.

In this video, a beekeeper denounces how the plantations of the Suzano company, one of the giants in the sector, are responsible for the death of his bees. The images were recorded in December 2025.

Over the past two decades, Mato Grosso do Sul has become the new frontier for the expansion of the pulp and paper industry. Eucalyptus monocultures already occupy approximately 1.8 million hectares, and companies operating in the region plan to expand this area. Suzano has two factories in the region (one of which opened in 2024 and was presented as the largest in the world), while the Chilean company Arauco is building an even larger one.
