Obsolete concepts of “poverty” and “development”, combined with powerful and unaccountable political and business interests, consistently result in the destruction of forests and the forest-based means of livelihood of local communities. The highly productive forest and secure means of livelihood of the communities of Tum Ring commune in central Cambodia are being replaced by a monoculture rubber plantation and severe hardships.
