Depuis des années, le WRM soutient les luttes locales et diffuse de l'information sur la monoculture d'arbres et sur ses impacts dans divers pays. Aujourd'hui, nous présentons à tous ceux qui participent à ces luttes un nouveau rapport intitulé : Panorama des plantations industrielles d'arbres dans les pays du Sud : conflits, tendances et luttes de résistance . Quand nous traitons un sujet comme « la définition de forêt », ce qui nous frappe d’entrée de jeu c’est le fait que, bien qu’il existe beaucoup de définitions de forêt en différents endroits du monde, il y a une définition, au caractère plus officiel et international, à laquelle se réfèrent bien des gouvernements nationaux, bien des institutions et d’autres organismes et organisations. Il s’agit de la définition de la forêt par la FAO, l’Organisation des Nations unies pour l’alimentation et l’agriculture.

The forest of the Congo Basin expands over an area of continuous tropical rainforest cover only second to that of the Amazon forest. Those forests are currently receiving a lot of attention within the Climate Change negotiations. (Disponible uniquement en anglais).

This publication is the result of a visit to Mozambique in November 2009 by two activists involved in the struggle against tree monocultures in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo. This visit was made possible by the World Rainforest Movement (WRM) with the goal of exchanging experiences about large-scale tree monocultures.

Oil palm and rubber plantations are very similar in many respects, but there is something that clearly differentiates them: oil palm is a native species in many West African countries –and part of the culture of local peoples- while rubber is clearly an alien species brought in by the Colonial powers.

Disponible uniquement en espagnol et  anglais.  Switching from fossil to alternative liquid fuels would appear to be a good idea, particularly in the context of climate change. Such is the case of converting the cellulose contained in plants into different types of fuels, among which liquid ethanol, that could be used in transport as an alternative to gasoline. However, current developments in this field show a number of threats that need to be highlighted.

Disponible uniquement en espagnol, portugais et  anglais.  WRM contribution to the Convention on Climate Change  Forests, everyone knows, are good for the climate – which makes it all the more important that governments and international community should work to protect them. But many current efforts to link forest conservation with climate change mitigation are sadly confused. It is important that parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change understand why.
